WHAT is covid-19?

The Coronavirus, also known as COVID-19, is an infectious disease that has rapidly spread around the world since December 2019. The Coronavirus is spread when an infected person coughs, sneezes, or talks, causing droplets to fall to the ground or linger in the air rapidly.

Symptoms of COVID-19 include cough, fever, shortness of breath, chills, loss of smell or taste, headache, diarrhea, and vomiting. It is important to know that people who have the virus may not have symptoms at all.

What vaccines are authorized for use in canada?

The following COVID-19 vaccines are authorized for use in Canada by Health Canada.

WHO CAN RECEIVE THE VACCINE?

Pfizer-BioNTech
COVID-19 Vaccine

Individuals 12 years
of age and older

For Second Dose Patients who received Pfizer as the first dose:
Individuals who are 70 years of age or older, if at least 4 weeks have passed since their first dose; OR
Individuals who received their first dose on or before May 9, 2021

Moderna
COVID-19 Vaccine

Individuals 18 years
of age and older

For Second Dose Patients who received Moderna as the first dose:
Individuals who are 70 years of age or older, if at least 4 weeks have passed since their first dose; OR
Individuals who received their first dose on or before May 9, 2021

AstraZeneca
COVID-19 Vaccine

Individuals 40 years
of age and older

For Second Dose Patients who received
AstraZeneca as the first dose:
At least 8-weeks, have passed since the individual’s first dose

What are the side effects of the covid-19 vaccine?

It is common and normal to have temporary minor side effects after your COVID-19 vaccine. Side effects can last for a few hours to a few days after your vaccination.

If you or a family member develop any serious symptoms after your vaccination, call 911 right away.

If you experience pain or a fever after your vaccination, speak with a Healthcare Provider.

They can help you manage your symptoms.

What should i bring to my covid-19 vaccacination appointment?

Wear loose clothing that allows the person administering the vaccine to have easy access to your upper arm or shoulder area, such as a t-shirt.

When should i get my second dose?

You will be provided a Vaccination Receipt which will indicate the date of your second COVID-19 vaccination dose. You should return for your second dose as instructed by the vaccination clinic where you received your first dose.

It is important you receive your 2 doses of the vaccine for optimal protection. Even if you experienced side effects from first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, it is important that you still receive the second dose.
